Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem. These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Sabiqoon ("we", "us"). They govern your use of the Sabiqoon mobile app for iOS and Android, the website at sabiqoon.io, and any related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Community Guidelines at sabiqoon.io/community-guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1What Sabiqoon is

Sabiqoon helps you build Islamic character (akhlaq) and good habits through Qualities, Gems and Habits, with optional Accountability Partners. Features may change over time (section 12).

2Religious content disclaimer

  1. 2.1
Educational, not a fatwa. Content in the Service, including Qur'anic verses, ahadith, translations, explanations and reflections, is for personal learning and self-development. It is not a religious ruling (fatwa), and it does not replace guidance from qualified scholars. For questions of fiqh, aqidah or personal circumstances, consult a scholar you trust.
  2. 2.2
Sources. We aim to cite the Qur'an and authentic hadith collections accurately and to note grading where relevant. Translations are approximations of meaning, not the Qur'an itself. If you believe any text, translation, reference or grading is wrong, please tell us at salam@salsabiltechnologies.com. We review every report and correct errors as quickly as we can.
  3. 2.3
Diversity of scholarly opinion. Sabiqoon follows mainstream Sunni scholarship in good faith. Where scholars hold differing valid views, we may present one view. This is not a judgement on others.
  4. 2.4
Progress is not piety. Streaks, completion percentages, levels and "days completed" are motivational aids only. They do not measure your iman, your sincerity or your standing with Allah, and no one should treat them that way. Only Allah knows the hearts.
  5. 2.5
Not a substitute for professional help. The Service is not medical, psychological, counselling, legal or financial advice. If you are struggling with your mental health, or are in danger, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.
  6. 2.6
Respect for sacred text. You agree not to copy, alter, screenshot-and-edit or present Qur'anic text or hadith from the Service in a mocking, misleading or disrespectful way.

3Eligibility and age

  1. 3.1
You must be at least [13 / 16] years old to use the Service, or the higher minimum age required for consent to data processing in your country (for example 16 in some countries).
  2. 3.2
If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
  3. 3.3
You may not use the Service if you are barred from receiving it under applicable law, or if we have previously terminated your account.

4Your account

  1. 4.1
You can sign up with an email and password, Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You must give accurate information and keep it up to date.
  2. 4.2
Your display name and profile photo are visible to your Accountability Partners. Choose a name and photo that are modest and appropriate (see section 6).
  3. 4.3
Keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us immediately at salam@salsabiltechnologies.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
  4. 4.4
One person, one account. You may not share, sell or transfer your account, or create an account for someone else without their permission.
  5. 4.5
You can change your password, display name, photo, reminder time and notification settings in the Profile tab at any time.

5Accountability Partners and social features

  1. 5.1
Invitations. You can invite a partner by email address. If that person already has an account, they receive an in-app notification and push notification. If they do not, we store the email address so the invite can link to their account if they later sign up with that address. Only invite people you know and who you reasonably believe would welcome the invitation.
  2. 5.2
What partners see. Once an invitation is accepted, each partner can see the other's display name, email address, profile photo, total habit days completed, current Quality and its completion percentage, active habit text, and the habit calendar for that habit. Partners cannot see your written reflections, your answers to Gem questions, or your subscription status.
  3. 5.3
Pokes and Celebrates. You may send each partner at most one Poke and one Celebrate per day (reset at your partner's local midnight). Each sends your partner a notification that includes your display name.
  4. 5.4
Control. You can decline an invitation, remove a partner, or block a user at any time. Blocking stops further invitations and interactions from that person. Removing or blocking a partner stops them seeing your progress from that point on.
  5. 5.5
Adab between partners. Partnership exists to encourage one another in good (ta'awun 'ala al-birr). When using social features you agree to:
    1. Be kind, sincere and encouraging. Never shame, mock or pressure a partner about their worship or progress.
    2. Avoid riya (showing off) and avoid comparing your deeds with others.
    3. Not backbite (ghibah), slander, or reveal a partner's progress, habits or personal details to others without their permission.
    4. Observe Islamic etiquette in interactions between men and women who are not mahram. Sabiqoon is not a matchmaking, dating or marriage service, and must not be used to seek such contact.
    5. Not use partnership to monitor, control or coerce anyone, including a spouse, child, student or employee. Partnership must be freely chosen and can be ended at any time.
  6. 5.6
No private messaging. The Service does not currently offer chat or messaging. If we add it, these Terms and the Community Guidelines will apply to it.

6Community Guidelines and prohibited conduct

You must not use the Service, including your display name, profile photo, habit text or invitations, to:

  1. 6.1
Post or display content that is obscene, sexual, immodest, violent, hateful, or that incites harm.
  2. 6.2
Mock or insult Allah, the Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him, any of the Prophets, the Companions, the Qur'an, or the beliefs of others.
  3. 6.3
Engage in sectarian attacks, takfir (declaring other Muslims disbelievers), or extremist propaganda, or promote any group designated as a terrorist organisation.
  4. 6.4
Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, impersonate or deceive any person, including by impersonating a scholar or Sabiqoon staff.
  5. 6.5
Send spam, mass invitations, or invitations to people you do not know.
  6. 6.6
Collect other users' data, including email addresses, without their consent.
  7. 6.7
Promote products, services, fundraising or charities without our written permission.
  8. 6.8
Share another person's private information without their consent.
  9. 6.9
Break the law, or encourage anyone to break it.
  10. 6.10
Reverse engineer, scrape, overload, probe or bypass the security of the Service, or access it through automated means.
  11. 6.11
Use the Service if you are under the minimum age in section 3.

To report a user or content, email salam@salsabiltechnologies.com with the user's display name and what happened. We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, with or without notice.

7Your content

  1. 7.1
"Your Content" means what you enter: answers and written reflections in Gems, habit text, display name, profile photo, and partner invitations.
  2. 7.2
You keep ownership of Your Content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, display and transmit it only as needed to run the Service for you, including showing the parts described in section 5.2 to your partners.
  3. 7.3
We do not sell Your Content, use your written reflections in marketing, or make them public. We do not use Your Content to train third-party AI models.
  4. 7.4
You confirm you have the right to upload any profile photo you use and that it does not infringe anyone's rights.

8Subscriptions and payments

  1. 8.1
Free and Premium. Some Qualities, Levels and features (including ad-hoc habits) are free. Others require Sabiqoon Premium, offered as a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country.
  2. 8.2
Billing. Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), not by us. Your payment is charged to your store account on confirmation of purchase. We do not receive or store your card details.
  3. 8.3
Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings, or from "Manage Subscription" in the Profile tab.
  4. 8.4
Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Where the law of your country gives you a right to withdraw or a refund, that right is not affected.
  5. 8.5
Restore purchases. If you reinstall the app or change device, use "Restore Purchases" to recover an active subscription.
  6. 8.6
When Premium ends. If your subscription expires, is cancelled, or fails due to a billing problem, Premium content is locked again. Any active Premium-only habits and ad-hoc habits are ended, but your past progress and answers are kept.
  7. 8.7
Price changes. We will give advance notice of price increases as required by the app stores and by law.
  8. 8.8
Complimentary access. We may grant Premium free of charge (for example to testers, scholars or people facing hardship). Complimentary access may be time-limited and revoked.
  9. 8.9
Shariah-conscious billing. We charge a fixed subscription price only. We do not charge interest (riba) or late fees. Store-imposed taxes may apply.
  10. 8.10
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in your store account first.

9Notifications

  1. 9.1
With your permission, we send push notifications for partner invitations, acceptances, declines, Pokes, Celebrates, and a daily reminder.
  2. 9.2
You can change your reminder time, turn daily reminders off in the app, or turn off all notifications in your device settings.
  3. 9.3
Notifications may appear on your lock screen and may show your partner's display name. Adjust your device settings if you share your device.

10Our intellectual property

  1. 10.1
The Service and its content, including Gem text, exercises, flows, illustrations, design, logos and the name "Sabiqoon", belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law.
  2. 10.2
The Qur'an and the ahadith themselves belong to no one. Our selection, arrangement, translations (where our own), commentary and presentation are protected.
  3. 10.3
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial self-development. You may share short excerpts with attribution to Sabiqoon for da'wah or personal reminders. Any other copying, redistribution, or commercial use requires our written permission.
  4. 10.4
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely without obligation to you.

11Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers for hosting, sign-in, notifications, analytics and payments (see our Privacy Policy). Your use of third-party sign-in options and the app stores is also subject to their terms. Links to external websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

12Changes to the Service and these Terms

  1. 12.1
We may add, change or remove features, content, Qualities or Gems, and change which content is free or Premium. If a change materially reduces what you paid for, we will tell you in advance where reasonably possible.
  2. 12.2
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email at least [14] days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms.

13Suspension, termination and account deletion

  1. 13.1
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and associated data as described in our Privacy Policy. It cannot be undone.
  2. 13.2
We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these Terms, create risk or legal exposure for us or others, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
  3. 13.3
    Sections 7.3, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17 survive termination.

14Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and uninterrupted availability. We do not guarantee any spiritual, behavioural or personal outcome from using the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.

15Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, goodwill or profits. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or the price of one annual Premium subscription in your country at the time of the claim. Nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

16Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for reasonable losses and costs arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Service, except where caused by our own fault. This does not apply to consumers where the law forbids it.

17Governing law and disputes

  1. 17.1
These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada. Courts in Alberta, Canada have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may also bring claims in the courts of their country of residence.
  2. 17.2
In the spirit of sulh (reconciliation), please contact us first at salam@salsabiltechnologies.com so we can try to resolve any dispute informally within 30 days.

18General

These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours to a successor that agrees to honour them. Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and have no obligation to support the app, but Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms for iOS users.
